There isn’t a teaching resource that can beat a damn good story, and if that story is about a teacher experiencing temperatures as low as -40 deg C, hauling sledges for hours up hills and running the gauntlet of crevasse fields then so much the better.
In late 2007 I was part of a five week, educational, expedition to Antarctica. The aim was to inspire children about Geography, Science and education by telling a story and by conducting research which is turned into exciting and innovative resources.
The expedition was organised by The Fuchs Foundation.
These resources allow self motivated students to learn more about Antarctica, my expedition and Geography. Hopefully they will be inspired to take their own incredible journeys, either literal or metaphorical. By following the links above you can access:
- photos from the build up and the expedition
- relevant video clips about the expedition, my science project, kit and Antarctic tourism
- teaching resources (read 'Antarctic lesson plans and resources' first and what the other documents are will become clear!). They mainly deal with general knowledge about the continent, what the weather is like in Antarctica and how humans cope with the conditions.
