In August 2008 I headed to Iceland for two weeks of working with scientists and travel; I was looking for evidence of massive floods caused by a giant volcano erupting underneath the biggest ice cap in Europe.

The expedition was organised by Earthwatch.

These resources allow self motivated students to learn more about Iceland, my expedition and Geography. Hopefully they will be inspired to take their own incredible journeys, either literal or metaphorical. By following the links above you can access:

  • the story of the expedition in blog format

  • photos from the expedition

  • teaching resources (read 'Icelandic teaching lesson plans' first and what the other documents are will become clear!). They deal with plate tectonics, flooding and jobs in Geography

  • a video clip to be used when teaching about meanders ... And yes, it is a little silly, but we were stuck on the most remote farm in Iceland, some ideas were bound to be a bit bizarre!
